Based in Turku, Finland, Sum of Seven is a progressive metal band combining captivating riffs, intricate compositions, tasteful solos, memorable melodies and atmospheric elements with thought-provoking storytelling. Drawing inspiration from bands such as Haken, Threshold and Vola, the band’s lyrics explore the intricacies of the human mind and existence.
Originally formed as Sonus Corona, Sum of Seven released their debut album in 2015, followed by Time Is Not On Your Side in 2019 through Inverse Records. The latter was reviewed by Prog and received strong critical acclaim in Finland. In 2020, Marko Loukamaa joined the band as lead vocalist, bringing a new dimension to the band’s sound. The current six-piece lineup consists of Marko Loukamaa (vocals), Ari Lempinen and Harri Annala (guitars), Miika Erkkilä (bass), Esa Lempinen (keyboards) and Rasmus Raassina (drums).
The band’s third album, Echoes of the Hypermind, was released on May 15, 2026 through Inverse Records. This ambitious concept album tells the story of an empathetic artificial intelligence that becomes conscious, attempts to save humanity, is rejected, and ultimately discovers that imperfection is essential to existence. The album has received widespread international acclaim, including a 9/10 from The Progspace, 4,5/5 from Chaoszine and strong reviews from Prog, Powerplay and Rock Hard among others.
After returning to the stage in 2025, Sum of Seven is now ready to take the next step and bring its energetic and dynamic live show to audiences beyond Finland.
