Biography

Turku-based Sum of Seven began as Sonus Corona, a fun project among friends but has grown into a powerhouse of energetic live performances and inspiring music. The musical mission has remained the same from the beginning. The goal is to create inspiring music that combines captivating riffs, tasty solos, and beautiful melodies with progressive storytelling. The lyrics focus on the intricacies of the mind. Stylistically, the band shares similarities with British bands Haken and Threshold as well as Danish-Swedish Vola.

For the first few years, the band operated under the surface with a driving force of passion to play and compose music with like-minded friends. However, the desire to spread their wings on bigger stages gradually grew. Their debut release in 2015 was made without significant ambitions but immediately garnered interest within the scene and received excellent reviews.

The second full-length album, Time is Not On Your Side, was released in 2019 through Inverse Records. It was reviewed by Prog, the world’s leading progressive rock publication. In Finland, it also received an excellent review in the respected Inferno magazine. Encouraged by this success, the band began planning bigger steps, but unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic and the departure of vocalist Timo Mustonen at a critical moment halted their momentum.

In 2020, the band welcomed Marko Loukamaa as their new vocalist. The singles released during and after the pandemic with Marko received outstanding feedback. Under his lead, the band sounds better than ever, their global audience continues to grow, and their desire to rise as a notable name in the prog scene burns stronger than ever. Alongside Marko, the lineup consists of guitarists Ari Lempinen and Harri Annala, bassist Miika Erkkilä, keyboardist Esa Lempinen, and drummer Rasmus Raassina. During the Corona pandemic the band decided to change their name to Sum of Seven.

The finishing stages of the new concept album Echoes of the Hypermind were underway in the summer of 2024 when the band’s main composer and guitarist, Ari, was involved in a serious accident. The situation initially appeared so dire that the band began preparing to call it quits. However, thanks to the support of the other members and Ari’s perseverance, he eventually regained his ability to perform. The comeback show was played in September 2025 to a packed house at Saaristobaari in Turku. The band is currently preparing to finally release the Echoes of the Hypermind concept album in the spring of 2026.
